I fought The Law & The Law won

Tom Law & Michael Cox ran out the victors at a windy Tidworth Garrison in the annual WCGU Foursomes Championship yesterday.

An (almost) full field found the course in excellent condition due to the very, very hard work of Head Green keeper Damian & his dedicated team in the previous few weeks, despite a complete lack of rain since early March.

However, the combination of fast greens, strong winds and some challenging pins meant that this was not a challenge for the faint-hearted, and good scores were difficult to come by despite the undoubted quality of the pairings.

First round 77's saw the combinations of Mark Snape/Alan Patterson, jamie Amor/Jez Tomlinson and Sam Elkins/Miles Mackman in joint 3rd, 2 shots behind Jake Bolton & Jack Seaman in 2nd. Law & Cox fired an admirable 74 to lead by 1 at lunchtime.

Elkins & Mackman followed their 77 with a 1 over 71 in the afternoon to take overall 3rd, beaten only on countback by Max Drayton and James Wiltshire whose level par 70 was the best round of the day.

However, Tom & Micheal held it all together with a brilliant 71 to top the field by 3 shots with a 145 total. The nett championship podium was dominated by Marlborough with veteran David Lewis & partner Malcolm Ford being pipped by 1 shot - David Bauer & Alan Burch running out winners with a nett 146.

Huge thanks must go to everyone at Tidworth Garrison who should be very, very proud of their excellent, but tough golf course.
