Tom Law Triumphs Again!

Sunday dawned bright & thankfully windless at Kingsdown Golf Club, much to the delight of 78 Wiltshire golfers, all vying to lift the title of WCGU Champion for 2017.

A fast running course and smooth, quick greens proved a stern challenge for even the best players, but scoring was good with 18 players within 5 shots of the lead after the first round. Garry Slade (Bowood), the 2015 Champion, led the way with a great 2 under par 70, which proved to be the best round of the day, winning him the prestigious Searle Salver. However, he was only 1 ahead of Jack Seaman (Wrag Barn) and 2 clear of Jamie Amor (Marlborough) and County Foursomes Champion Tom Law (Broome Manor).

The afternoon proved a stiffer test, with Tom Law's level par 72 proving to be the best round - an accolade shared by Manor House's Casey Bean. Garry Slade carded a 2 over 74, meaning that both players finished on a total of 144.

The first hole of the playoff saw matching 4's, but when Garry could not get up and down from the fringe on the second extra hole, Tom took control and finished with 2 fours, running out a deserved winner.
