County Cup Day Success for Bowood

The annual County Cup Day was held  at an immaculate Bowood Hotel, Spa & Golf Club on Tuesday 15th August 2017. This event is a meeting of all the Council Members (Men) and Club Delegates (Ladies) who give so much of their own time as volunteers to make the WCGU & WLCGA successful.

The competition was preceded by a presentation from England Golf's Director of Strategy and Governance, who updated the meeting on the benefits of merger and incorporation. This was followed by an update from Carol Main and Scott Talbert regarding the progress of the anticipated amalgamation between the two Wiltshire bodies.

At the conclusion of the meeting representatives from 21 Wiltshire Clubs voted unanimously for the merger to take place, a decision that will go forward for ratification at the two AGMs in November. Should the ballot be in the affirmative at those gatherings, the new Wiltshire Golf Ltd company will come into being on the 1st January 2018.

A mixed Bowmaker competition then took place over 18 holes with 25 teams competing for the County Cup. Photo's will follow soon, but the event was won by Bowood with a magnificent 85 points, followed by Kingsdown (83) & Erlestoke (74 CB).

Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, especially Director of Golf Paul McClean who returned from his holiday especially to supervise the WCGU Secretary!!
