Wiltshire Narrowly Miss out at Minehead

Wiltshire's first outing in the Channel league for 2018 ended in disappointment at Minehead with Ali James' side going down 8.5 - 6.5 to last year's champions.

The morning foursomes were closely fought with the pairings of Paul McMullen (Broome Manor) & Dom Seaman (Marlborough) and Ali James (Cumberwell Park) and Garry Slade (Bowood) both winning their matches. Two of the other games went  to the 18th which is indicative of just how close the match was.

Garry Slade put the first point on the board for the Tractor Boys in the afternoon, but unfortunately the next 3 matches all went the way of the home side, leaving Wiltshire with a mountain to climb. However, with Max Drayton, Guy Drayton (Wrag Barn) and Tom Law (Broome Manor) all delivering wins, for a time the result was in the balance, but unfortunately Paul McMullen's excellent half could not sway the tide and Somerset took the afternoon 5.5 - 4.5 to give them a 2 point winning margin.

It was a very encouraging start to the season, and the next match will be against Devon at Cumberwell Park on Sunday 13th May 2018. This is a precursor to the SWCGA County Week that will also be taking place at Cumberwell between the 9th & 16th June 2018 - please come along and support the guys as they attempt to qualify for the English County Finals for the first time since 2012.
