The WLCGA Annual General Meeting

The AGM was held at North Wilts Golf Club, on Saturday 5th November, this was well represented by ladies from clubs throughout the County.

The President, Pauline Hawkins, welcomed everyone to the meeting and invited the Officers to give their reports.

County Captain Carol Main and Vice Captain Hazel Shrewry informed the ladies on the successes and positive results of the County Teams in matches that were played throughout the season. There is a strong County Squad coming through of both Ladies and Junior Girls which looks very positive for next year and especially for the SW Inter Counties Week which Wiltshire are hosting in 2017 at Wrag Barn.

Anne Martin, presented the audited accounts and informed the meeting of the finances , which are healthy, but we will have some additional expense next year, in hosting the Inter County match week.

Lynn Thornton, Competition Secretary, reported on the past year of competitions and outlined changes some County Competitions for the year ahead, this followed a very positive meeting with the County Delegates earlier in the Year. The Spring Meeting is to include a Stableford and there is no longer a handicap limit to the County Championships. This is to enhance the England Golf initiative of inclusivity and encourage everyone to participate in the competitions. Junior Girls will be encouraged to join in all the competitions apart from the Senior Ladies Championships!

Scott Talbert the Mens County Secretary was invited to speak to the ladies the on the proposed merger between our Associations, this proved to be very informative with the date for the merger set for January 2018. He said that we would all have an opportunity to vote for/against the proposal at an AGM to be held at the same time as the Men’s AGM.

Carol Main has completed her term of office as County Captain, she handed Hazel her Captian’s badge who thanked Carol,on behalf of all members and presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a voucher. Hazel then gave Anne Ferguson her Vice Captain’s badge.

We also said goodbye and thanked Ros Thomson the Events Organiser for all the hard work that she had done over the last two years in making sure that the County events ran smoothly. Ros was then presented with a bouquet of flowers by Carol.

Pat Traves was presented with flowers in recognition for all the work she had done in producing magnificent raffle prizes for all the county events, all money raised from this goes towards the Junior Girls fund.

Jan Scott has been co-opted onto the Executive Committee as Events Organiser, to replace Ros Thomson.

Pauline Hawkins presented the prizes and congratulated all the winners who had been successful during the season, all results have been sent to the Delegates of each club.

The draw for the Scratch and Handicap Knockouts then took place and these will be posted on the County Website.

The AGM was then closed with Pauline Hawkins asking ladies to continue their support of County Events in 2017, she then wished everyone a safe journey home.
