Afternoon singles comback seals win for Wiltshire men against Devon.

On a gloriously sunny day at Cumberwell Park last Sunday the Wiltshire team produced some fine golf throughout the day against a Devon team that were up for the challenge.

The morning foursomes were hard fought and it looked grim for our boys, until the top match came good to get the first point on the board. Garry Slade and James Cooper won out in the end. The next three matches were lost, but our young bucks, Tom Stagg and Joe Retford came out on top to bring the match back to 2-3 at lunchtime. There was no despondency among the Wiltshire team and with the sun still shining with a stiffening breeze, the afternoon singles began.

James Cooper disappeared into the distance as No 1 and when the President eventually caught him up he was going strong and finished up bringing the match level. Garry Slade had a seesaw match that he eventually halved against current England international Jake Burnage. Tom Law, at 3, unfortunately lost his game so we were once again behind. Max Drayton won the fourth match and Casey Bean, making his county debut, won his match on the seventeenth. Another debutant, Seb Forrest, unfortunate lost his match so it back to level with four matches remaining. With Tom Stagg 6 up after 12 and Joe Retford 5 down after 11, it was down to Jamie Cooper and Dom Seaman to get us across the line.

Jamie won on the last and with Tom Stagg winning in the country, Dom won the 16th hole to go 2 up and at point we had won the match. Dom relaxed (that's his words) on the 17th, but eventually ran out 2 up in his match down the last. Joe meantime made a remarkable comeback to only lose on the 17th.

A great comeback with Wiltshire winning the singles 6.5-3.5 and the match 8.5-6.5.
