Wiltshire Golf

Wilts come up short against Gloucestershire.

Cumberwell’s course was in great condition but, unfortunately the weather didn’t match it; dull and grey was the forecast all day. The singles against Gloucs were going our way for most of the morning and with good wins for James Cooper by 4&2 against EG’s Order of Merit leader Mitch Waite, Tom Stagg by 6&5 and Paul McMullen 2&1 and half points from Gary Slade, Joe Retford and Max Drayton this gave us a deserved 4.5-3.5 halfway lead.

The afternoon finished dissapointingly in that in the space of an hour what looked like a 3-1 lead rapidly became a 1-3 loss. Our only points came from Tom Stagg and Joe Retford who both won 2&1. So there it was, a defeat by 8-6 which, with Somerset beating Dorset 12.5-1.5, pushed us down to third with 2 points, behind Gloucs with 3 and top of the pile Somerset with 3points but ahead by 7.5 on total game points.

Thursday sees us playing  Cornwall.
