Some excellent golf was played at North Wilts Golf Club, on 1st-3rd June, on a course that was presented in superb condition for which we thank the green staff most sincerely.
For a second year, the Wiltshire Junior Girls Championship took place alongside the Ladies Championship and it was very encouraging to have eight girls participating in both events. The winner of the Junior Championship was Seona Mauchline (High Post) and the winner of the Nett Prize was Sofia Corridor Escalante (Broome Manor).
The Junior Girls played a major part in the Ladies Championship this year, winning both the Championship and the Second Flight Competitions.
The qualifying scores were very commendable given that the second round was interrupted by a deluge of rain which caused many greens to flood. This situation was quickly resolved by a team of valiant greenkeepers who ‘swept’ in to save the day! However, despite the weather the players were undeterred, and we were treated to some fantastic golf at the weekend from all of those who participated.
The Final was played in warm, sunny conditions with Katie Walls (Broome Manor), pictured below, taking on Ali Grandison (Chippenham). Katie eventually won the Championship Salver and Ali the Taunton Bowl as runner-up.
The Kennard Cup (for best aggregate scores in the Championship and the Spring Meeting) was won by Katie Dove-Medows (Kingsdown GC) with Ali Grandison (Chippenham) the runner-up.
The Hoare Salver (for the best 36-hole scratch score) was won by another Junior - Laura Curtis (Cumberwell Park).
The Barber Dish (for the best 36 nett score) was won by Becky Miles (Ogbourne Downs) the runner up was Olivia Bannon (Broome Manor).
Our warmest thanks go to all those at North Wilts who facilitated our stay at the club and we look forwards to returning in the future.
