After cancelling these finals 2 weeks ago for bad weather and a closed course, the rescheduled date of 13th October dawned... pouring rain with the local roads flooded!
Amazingly Ogbourne Downs was still open with some lying water and several bunkers with water in them.
Our referee, Linda Brown and I discussed how to proceed and to get the matches played. Our aim was to minimise the delays and get around efficiently.
Sadly, buggies were not permitted, which gave Linda a very tiring day walking the course and back tracking frequently - thank you Linda.
There was an all Chippenham Foursomes final of Ruth Bridgewater and Janie Sharpe v Tuppence Hale and Jill Kee. This match had the added distraction of a trolley breaking down and then getting the Ogbourne Pro, Matt, to go out with another! The winners were Jill Kee and Tuppence Hale.
The Handicap Knockout between West Wilts (represented by Dawn Hicketts, Claire Watts, Andree Williams, Gill Newton and Ann Gower) and Kingsdown was played next and after many hard fought holes the winners were West Wilts 3/2.
All matches were very close, the last one going to the 19th hole.
The Scratch Knockout between Kingsdown (represented by Camilla Davies, Portia Abbott, Vivien Monument, Jan Scott and Katie Dove-Medows) and Chippenham was won by Kingsdown, with 3 matches coming down to the 18th.
Well done to all those who played. Thanks to all the caddies and spectators who turned out and to Ogbourne Downs and all their staff.
