Wiltshire Golf
The Wiltshire Golf Men's & Ladies Senior Championships took place at Kingsdown Golf Club on Thursday 15th July 2021, and despite the sizzling temperatures experienced over the previous week the course was presented in stunning condition.
The Men were out first and a field of 75 players were determined to wrest the title from last years winner, Cumberwell Park's Colin Edwards. Indeed the conditions could not have been more different from the 2020 Championship, which was played in torrential rain, when the first tee shot was struck at 08:03.
Despite the perfect weather conditions and the pristine presentation of the course, scoring was difficult, and throughout the day no one shot under par, and only 1 player beat their handicap.
kingsdown member and former Welsh International Paul Bloomfield came in fifth on 78, beaten to joint 3rd by Mark Snape (Tidworth Garrison) and Martin Hill (Cumberwell Park) who both recorded creditable 75's. One shot better in second place was former County Captain Mike White (West Wilts) but no one could topple Edwards who recorded back to back victories and a 2 shot winning margin.
So to the Ladies...informed commentators opined that last year's champion, Katie Dove-Medows would be very difficult to beat on her home turf, but 35 optimistic players set off in the heat of the day to prove them wrong. Again, no competitor broke par, and only one beat their handicap but it seemed that if your name began with a K you would be successful!
Carol Perrot (High Post) bucked that trend by coming in fifth with an 87, being beaten into 4th by Karen Sturges (Tidworth Garrison) who was 1 shot better. Third, again one shot better off was defending Champion Katie Dove-Medows who defied injury with an 85. Second on her own was Karen Banbrook (Marlborough) with 84, but the clear winner recording a 6 shot victory was her club mate Karen Gosling (78).

Successful competitions do not run themselves - Wiltshire Golf would like to thank Sue Lyons (Competitions Director) and all the volunteers who gave their time freely to support the event. Finally, a huge thank you to David Nelson, the staff and all the members at Kingsdown Golf Club for the warm welcome we received and for giving the players the chance to play on a perfectly prepared course.
