Peter Andrews Hangs Up His Stopwatch!

Ogbourne Golf Club member Peter Andrews has decided to stand down as Wiltshire's Head referee  after 30 years of officiating in the County, and on the national stage.

Peter first qualified as an England Golf  referee in 1991, and at that time was the only official in the County. He went on to stand in hundreds of events, including the Brabazon Trophy and International matches, not to mention countless Wiltshire Championships.

Peter became our Head Referee in 2001, and under his stewardship Wiltshire has built up an outstanding cohort of officials, many of whom are also qualified to Level 3, International standard.

The County owe Peter a massive debt of gratitude, as none of our events could run as successfully as they do without the support of our team of adjudicators. His wise words and self-deprecating sense of humour  will be sorely missed, as will be his attention to detail and unfailing determination to help his fellow golfer do the right thing.

Peter's protege, Paul Berry, has taken over the reins as the Wiltshire Head Referee and was fulsome in his praise for everything his predecessor in the role has done. Paul said:

'We now have a great group of officials who are the envy of most other Counties, and the majority of them are qualified to Level 3 standard. None of this would have been possible without Peter's hard work and dedication over the years, and we will all miss him greatly'.

Wiltshire Golf wish Peter a long and happy retirement, and many stress free rounds of golf at Ogbourne. He is pictured here with County Chair and fellow referee Ray Smith.
