Jess Makes Hay Whilst the Wind Blows, And Captain Gill Names Her Team for ICMW

The Ladies County Championship took place at a blustery Chippenham Golf Club on the 4th June.

The course was in fabulous condition and the scores illustrated just that – first round leader Niamh Cripps (Broome Manor) breaking the course record compiling a 78 which gave her a six shot lead at lunch. Alex Patton and Jess Hayes (both Cumberwell Park) were second and third respectively on 84 and 86…but could she hang on?

As the wind got up conditions got harder and harder, and Niamh was blown slightly off course, carding an afternoon 87. However, Jess had the title in her sights and broke the course record for the second time in the day shooting a brilliant 75 to run out the winner by 4 shots.

Third place went to Wrag Barn’s Ashleigh Thorne and Niamh was a deserved second.

The First Division of the Handicap Competition was won by Sue Lyons (Marlborough) and the Second by home player Jackie Lawton.
