Val Triumphs Again

Kingsdown GC played host to WLCGA Senior Ladies County Championships on Thursday 20th July. Sixty-two ladies representing fifteen clubs took part. Local knowledge proved to be an advantage with home players coming first in both the Scratch and Handicap events as well as featuring prominently in the prizes.

The course was challenging on the day with swirling winds and quick fairways. The greens were tight, fast and true but for those ladies who weren’t accurate on approach shots bunkers collected many stray balls!

The Pakeman Cup was won by Val McFarlane (Kingsdown). Val successfully defended her title with a gross score of 83. The runner up by one shot was Jan Scott (Kingsdown). Jayne Long (Tidworth Garrison) was third.

The Wadworth Challenge Cup was won by Jan Scott with a nett score of 71. Maura Coughlan (Kingsdown) was one shot behind and Val McFarlane was third.

The winner of the Hutchinson Cup for players 70+ years was Sue Dix (Kingsdown) with last year’s winner Marion Titt (West Wilts) runner up. Third place went to Jean Root (North Wilts).

Nearest the Pin in Division 1 at the fourth hole was won by Carol Main (Chippenham); unfortunately Division 2 found the 17th Hole a real teaser as no-one managed to get a ball to stay on the green!
