The Men's County Championship 2025 took place at a blustery and testing North Wilts Golf Club on Sunday 11th May 2025. The course was presented in excellent condition and huge thanks must go to Andy and all the green keeping staff for their hard work during a very taxing dry spell.

The first round was closely contested with Salisbury & South Wilts' Andy Whitford leading with an impressive and hard-fought 71 until he was overtaken by the last out, Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn) whose even better one under par 70 was the best of the morning session. Martin Sell (Cumberwell Park) was a shot further back in third with Tom Law (Marlborough) and Wayne Lingard (Kingsdown) tied in 4th on 73.

Fortunately, the second round was uninterrupted by the circling storms, but the conditions proved equally taxing. Dave Bauer (Marlborough) led in the clubhouse for a long time, but the last few groups stepped up, and Harry Dickins' 71 (High Post)  saw him pip Garry Slade (Cumberwell Park) for 3rd place. Elliot Taylor (Tidworth Garrison) shot the round of the day, with a fabulous 69 to take 2nd on 148, but it was the veteran Martin Sell who took the overall honours - his par 71 round giving him a total of 143.

There are soo many people we must thank for what was an amazing day. Firstly the players, for soldiering on in very difficult conditions! Secondly, Trish Stephenson and Rachel Davies for their hard work and endless good humour when faced with another request from the Operations Director! Andy Pullen and his greenkeepers deserve special praise as do all the team, staff and members of North Wilts.

Nothing would be possible without volunteers, so huge thanks go to our rules officials Paul Berry, Nigel Duda, Don Donaldson and Linda Brown, Event Manager Sara Bottomley and our Presidential team of Gill Loughrey, Roger Searle and Jerry Gegg.
