A damp and rather chilly start to the day at Tidworth Garrison GC welcomed our visitors from Gwent to face a confident Wiltshire side who are starting to find some form.
With the team largely unchanged from the previous match, less for the team Captain and Andy Palmer (another new player making his debut) both from Tidworth, things got off to a great start in the morning, winning the greensomes 4.5 to 0.5.
The team chat at lunchtime was fairly straight forward, continue to press home the advantage and gain as many points as possible! The weather brightened up considerably as the day progressed, and with the team Captain (Dave Barbour) playing towards the back of the field, results filtering through were very promising. Our scout out on the course, Steve Hinton from North Wilts, was doing a great job in getting around the course and feeding back progress to the Captain.
As the afternoon progressed it remained apparent that results were indeed going the way of the home side. After the singles matches score of 8-2 (with 7 victories and 2 halved matches) the overall result was a resounding 12.5-2.5 win for the home side, clawing back some of the deficit from the first match of the season at Glamorgan.
Thanks goes out to Tidworth GGC for hosting us on the day, and with several comments from the opposition about the layout of the course, the condition of the greens and the hospitality of the bar and catering staff it was pleasing to hear the recognition. Well done to all concerned.
The next event is South West week at Minehead GC 15-17 July, followed by our away fixture against Gloucester at Lansdowne GC on Mon 28th July.
Finally, a very special thanks to Steve Hinton for his support at both the Somerset match and at this one, to ensure we all knew what was happening, thanks again Steve.
