Kingsdown Winter Series Event is a Sunny Delight!

Once again a full field of 80 players enjoyed amazing weather, and a fabulous course in our Winter Series event. The sun shone, and over half the field beat par on a blustery but sunny day at Kingsdown. The fast greens and well placed pins caught out the unwary, but the standard of golf was very impressive for the time in the season.

Early pacesetters were the Whitley pair of Tom Walton and Paul West who returned an impressive 42 points, but this was soon surpassed by Dennis Blackley (obviously really missing his normal partner!) and Oliver Moss from Erlestoke. Their 43 points proved insurmountable and they ran out winners by a single point. The minor places were equally hard-fought, and 3rd to 5th could only be separated by countback.

The battle was won by Vince Goodenough and Paul Berry (Broome Manor) who came in 3rd on 40 points, just ahead of Marlborough's Chris Faulkner and Peter Mack. The ever consistent Wrag Barn pair of Ian Hall and Steve Slattery were fifth, which will hopefully make up in small part for Tottenham's season!

Nearest the pins were won by Alex Pottle (Marlborough), Steve Slattery, Andy Lake (Hamptworth) and Angie Perry (Wrag Barn), although apparently this last one will be shared with husband Simon, for all his support and great advice ....

Wiltshire Golf would like to offer a huge thank you to the members and staff at Kingsdown for their warm welcome, and for allowing us to play on their fantastic course. Special thanks goes to Club Manager James Short whose constant help and support over the past 2 years has been invaluable.

There are still 4 places available for the next event at North Wilts on the 10th April, and 20 for the final at Wrag Barn on the 12th May.

The Order of Merit currently looks like this:

1st Aiden Bell & Dennis Blackley 122 points

T2 Iain Muirhead & Simon Humpage 117 points

T2 Newman & Nick Floyd 117 points

T2 Paul Berry & Vince Goodenough 117 Points

T2 Ian Hall & Steve Slattery 117 points

6th DJ Brett & Graham Rissone 116 points

However ... there are also some dangerous pairs hovering who have not yet played their 3rd event, so all is still up for grabs! Can Aiden & Dennis improve again, or can any of the chasing pack play the round of their lives at North Wilts?

The individual Order of Merit is complicated (those players who have played in 3 or more events, but not with the same partner), but all will become clear at the end of season finale!
