Mens 1st Team win again

The team from Gwent made the short journey across the Severn to Kingsdown for the third match in this year’s Channel League. Wiltshire, as yet unbeaten in the first two games, was missing a couple of regulars and gave a debut to teenager James Cooper (Cumberwell) and also recalled Paul Mathews (Cumberwell) fresh from his excellent showing at this year’s County Championships. Despite losing the first two foursomes, the tail wagged and some gutsy golf saw Wiltshire holding a narrow 1 point lead at lunch. The weather changed dramatically before at the start of the singles with strong winds and torrential rain from large, localised showers. Notwithstanding that, some excellent golf was played throughout the afternoon and in another dramatic finale Wiltshire managed to get across the line for an impressive win. Special mention should go to young James Cooper who, on debut, won both of his games. With three wins out of three Wiltshire sit proudly at the top of the Channel League with three matches to go; the next match is at Lansdown against Gloucestershire on Aug 2^nd.
