Wiltshire Golf Statement 3 April 2020

Wiltshire Golf COVID-19 Update 3rd April 2020

Subsequent to the England Golf statement issued on the 2nd April 2020 Wiltshire Golf Ltd’s Board of Directors have discussed various issues currently affecting the County structure. The following decisions were made:

Development

All Boy’s & Girl’s coaching that has not taken place will be cancelled and the focus will be placed on squads and development for the 2021 season. Wiltshire Golf will refund all parental contributions which have already been received. However, as most of these transactions have been made by Bank transfer we will be contacting parents/Guardians individually in the very near future to arrange repayments.

Performance

The Boy’s SWCGA Under-18 Championship at Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club has now been postponed. It is hoped to hold this and the Under 14/16 event later in the year.

The Men’s Seniors SWCGA Strokeplay Championship at Bristol & Clifton on the 22nd & 23rd July 2020 has now been postponed. It is unlikely that this competition will be re-scheduled.

Ladies Inter-County Match Week at Dudsbury Golf Club has been cancelled. This will not be re-arranged for 2020.

The Girls Inter-County Matchweek at Carlyon Bay, Cornwall is currently still going ahead but is still under review.

The Men’s SWCGA Strokeplay event will hopefully be conducted later this year, although it is likely to be a field restricted to 36 players – 6 from each County.

Competitions

The Ladies Spring meeting has been cancelled. All entry fees will be refunded.

All other competitions to be played before July 27th 2020 have been postponed. It is hoped that we will be able to play some of these later in the year at a specific, 3-day event. This includes:

Men’s & Ladies Foursomes, 3rd May 2020 at Chippenham

Men’s County Championship, 17th May 2020 at Tidworth

Junior County Championship, Boys and Girls 26th May 2020 at Bowood

Junior Team Shield, 26th May 2020 at Bowood

Ladies County Championship, 30th May 2020 at Ogbourne

Ladies Divisional Championship, 30th May 2020 at Ogbourne

Men’s & Ladies Senior Championships, 16th July 2020 at Kingsdown

Junior Development Tour, Events 1-6 inclusive.

ALL ENTRY FEES FOR THE ABOVE COMPETITIONS ARE BEING REFUNDED. WE WILL BE MAKING FURTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING THE LADIES BOWMAKER, MEN’S DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP AND RAMSBURY TROPHY AT A LATER DATE. THE REPAYMENT IS A TIME-CONSUMING OPERATION AND WE WILL BE DOING THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

All Men’s, Ladies & Junior Leagues and Knockout competitions have been cancelled. These will resume in 2021. If clubs wish to claim a refund of these entry fees we will gladly oblige, or we can retain them for the 2021 season. This includes:

Ladies County Foursomes Knockout – Entry fees will be returned

Ladies Scratch Leagues & Knockout

Ladies Handicap Leagues & Knockout

Men’s Buthlay Cup

Junior Leagues & Knockout Cup Competition

Finance

The Finance Committee has met and a decision has been made, ratified by the full Board, to continue to collect affiliation fees for 2020. This is because we are hoping that the golf season will start at some point this year and Wiltshire Golf will be able to hold and finance some events as planned.

However, it is anticipated that due to the unique nature of the current situation there will be a budget surplus at the end of the year. This amount will be returned to the membership in 2021 in a reduction in affiliations fees for next season.

Because of the uncertainty we cannot say how big that reduction will be, but we will  continually review and update our financial situation and will keep all our members informed.

Furthermore, when play does resume, Wiltshire Golf will also be providing free golf competitions for anyone who has signed up for the App (see above).

And Finally…

Wiltshire Golf would like to send best wishes to all our Clubs and our Members. We are looking forward to the day when we can all enjoy the fellowship of golf on our fantastic courses. Please follow all the professional and Governmental advice that we are getting, and stay as safe as you can!
