Seona Mauchline (High Post) wins Girls' County Championship 2016

On a blisteringly hot day this week our junior girls battled it out to see who would be this year’s champion. Sadly the field wasn’t huge as a lot of girls had taken the opportunity to go on holiday after SW Inter Counties. However those who did attend worked extremely hard in very difficult conditions.

We also ran a ‘futures’ competition (9 holes) for girls without a handicap and ages arranged form 7 to 10. The winner was Niamh Cripps from North Wilts with a gross 63, a truly fantastic score at this stage of development. Many congratulations Niamh, we look forward to seeing you achieve your true potential in the coming years…

The winning champion, Best Gross 2016, retaining her title, was Seona Mauchline (High Post) with a gross score of 79 (net 72). This was a very solid win against the other competitors and Seona thoroughly deserves the title. A fantastic result Seona, concluding an amazing year. Well done!

Other trophies awarded were for Best Nett, which was won by Katie Walls from Broome Manor (gross 89, net 71). She also won the U15 Best Nett so very well done indeed Katie.

As Katie could only win one voucher, the voucher for U15 Best Nett went to Hattie Dunn from S & S Wilts (gross 95, net 73). Congratulations!

The U15 Best Gross was won by Laura Curtis from Cumberwell (gross 89, net 79).

The longest drive was won by Rachel Burgess (S & S Wilts) and sadly no one made it on to the green on the 18th to win the nearest the pin!

My thanks go to S & S Wilts for their wonderful hospitality; to Jackie (Lady Captain) for finding so many very willing volunteers and also for the time she spent with us on the day; to all those wonderful ladies who helped make the competition such a success and also to the catering staff and greenkeepers. And finally my thanks to all the girls for taking part – and their parents for the endless journeys they make around the County to get the girls to these events!
